Different ways to select elements for personalizations

Once you have personalized a specific element in a RightMessage Campaign, it’s possible to edit the personalization to edit and/or change the element(s) associated with the personalization.

In this article, we will look at the different ways to select elements in the personalization area.

How to navigate to the campaign personalization area

From the RightMessage admin bar, click 'Personalize' --> 'Campaigns'.

To begin making personalizations, click 'Edit This Campaign'.

The campaign personalization area will load the home page of the website associated with the account you are currently viewing.

How to select an element in the preview pane.

To manually select an element for your campaign, hover over the website in the preview pane and use the pink outline feature to locate the element you want to personalize.

The outline feature will specify the type of element you are hovering over - such as a link, headline, paragraph, list item, image or other type of element.

Click on the highlighted element you want to personalize. A box will show under the element with an option to personalize the element or cancel the selection.

Click the option to ‘Start Personalizing This …’

The personalization editing tool will display on the screen containing the options available for personalizing the element.

How to select an element using the 'view/customize selector' area.

If there is a specific element you want to personalize, but you are not able to use the highlight feature, you can change what element is being personalized by adding the ‘selector’ to the personalization editing tool.

Click on the ‘Affected Elements’ tab and click ‘view / customize selector (advanced)’

Use the field provided to either adjust the selector so it is more specific, or delete the selector listed and add the selector you want to target.

Click ‘Done’ once you are ready.

Make any personalizations to the element you have selected and publish the changes.

Changing the element a personalization is associated with

You can change what element a personalization is applied to if you have personalizations for specific elements already created.

In the ‘Affected Elements’ tab of the personalization editing tool, click ‘pick a different element’.

To select a new element for the personalization, hover over the website in the preview pane and use the pink outline feature to locate the element you want to assign to the personalization.

Click on the highlighted element.

The ‘Affected Elements’ will automatically save the change and apply all personalizations to the element.

The element previously selected for the personalization will return to its natural state.

To make sure your personalization changes are saved, click the ‘Publish’ button in the top right corner of the screen.

Adding multiple elements to one personalization

If you want to apply a specific personalization to other elements on the page, you can edit the personalization to add multiple elements in the ‘Affected Elements’ tab.

Click on the ‘Affected Elements’ tab and click ‘+ add extra elements’

To select an additional element for the personalization, hover over the website in the preview pane and use the yellow outline feature to locate an element you want to add to the personalization.

Click on the highlighted element.

Repeat the above process to add more elements to the personalization.

Click ‘Done’ once you are ready.

To make sure the personalization changes are saved, click the ‘Publish’ button in the top right corner of the screen.
